These Tweets About How Damn Bad The Orioles Opening Day Roster Is Just Broke My Heart

So I saw this floating around my timeline the last few hours and I figured, let’s write about baseball. This tweet is too depressing to not talk about the Orioles on the day of the Sweet 16. Yes, shockingly, I like sports other than basketball even if my blogs don’t seem that way.

But, this team?

It wasn’t that long ago that the Orioles were rolling out a lineup with guys like Manny, Adam Jones, Jonathan Schoop, Nick Markakis and winning the AL East or making the playoffs. I don’t even care that they got swept in the 2014 ALCS, that was the most fun I’ve had watching baseball possibly in my life. It was nice to be relevant and who could forget the Delmon Young hit against the Tigers:

I felt like I waited forever for the 2012 season. That was really the magical one. The one that came out of nowhere after 15 years of no playoffs, no success, no nothing. Just me attending Camden Yards giddy only to be let down. But, hey, at least there was Pickles and Boogs BBQ. I don’t even care that my heart was ripped out by Raul fucking Ibanez. Baseball was back in Baltimore.

And now here we are. Two years after not sending Zach(k) Britton in to pitch against the Blue Jays in the Wild Card game, which, we all know how that ended, the Orioles have a Vegas over/under of 59.5. FIFTY NINE AND A HALF! That’s just so depressing. I mean how am I supposed to get excited for this? It’s one thing if I was living near Camden and could go to the most beautiful stadium in baseball. But, I’m just a fan that has to watch on TV.

I want to say I’ll be surprised by the Os. I mean why else would they get the national TV spot on Opening Day? I’m sure it has nothing to do with the Yankees. I’d like to believe in this rebuild. Saw it happen once when they hit with Manny, Wieters, Schoop, etc.

This is year 1 of the rebuild. They have to continue to develop the guys in the farm system. Hope young guys that are getting at bats in the big leagues keep developing and start new. Please, I’m just begging for a smart rebuild. That’s all I ask for. Let me cheer for a team contending in a few years again.

Oh, and I get this all the time. How am I a Kentucky/Knicks/Giants/Orioles fan? Simply put my old man is a Mets fan and told me not to be a Mets fan. He let me choose as a young Reags. That was dumb because I picked the Orioles because they were the closest team to where I grew up (shout out York). Also, Brady Anderson and Cal Ripken. So that’s how I ended up an Os fan instead of a Yankees/Mets fan.

Now, let’s play this to 60 wins and cash that over ticket.
