JR Smith Says He's "Done With This Black Stuff"
KnicksBlog – Many Knicks players wore black to the game because Kenyon Martin had suggested on Tuesday that they dress for a funeral. Instead, after failing to close out their first playoff series victory since 2000 on their home floor, J.R. Smith told reporters, ”We was going to a funeral, man, but it looks like we got buried. I’m done with this black stuff.” He added: “Basketball is a humbling game. I’m done with this black stuff, man. I’m a superstitious person. I’m going to go back to my old routine.” The Celtics, who appeared to be guilty of their own post-game shenanigans, called out the funeral attire. “Whatever shenanigans they want to pull, dressing all black, let them do that,” said Brandon Bass , who scored 17 points while also guarding Anthony “We’re here to win games and not talk.” Anthony said his team was confident that it could win this thing in Game 6, without having to go to a Game 7. “I told you from Game 1 that this wasn’t going to be an easy breeze, it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park, them guys was going to fight,” Anthony said. “And they showing some fight right now. They threw a couple punches at us, now it’s time for us to do the same. “We feel very confident going into Boston. We feel that we can go in and get a win there and close this series out and that’s our mentality.”
Oh JR. I wish. I wish you were done with the black stuff. You don’t understand how overwhelmingly ironic that statement is.
Look here’s the deal – the funeral garbage was just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen a team do. It was a completely retarded stunt organized by Kenyon fucking Martin. He’s a scrappy beast off the bench but he’s in no position to be pulling a stunt like that. Its absolutely stupid no matter who organizes it, but for a guy who couldn’t even deliver that funeral if he wanted to, it makes it ten times worse. There’s absolutely no defending it. I mean, yes, if they won, I would have put up a funny blog about it, Knicks Stoolies would rub it in the face of Celtics Stoolies in the comments section. Is that fucking worth it? Is it worth risking the egg you have on your face now after losing? For sure not.
Next up on the list – people comparing the 2004 ALCS to this series. Celtics fans realize they just won game 5 right? Like think about how excited you guys are after winning Games 4 and 5. Think about how much celebrating you’re doing to send this series back to Boston. Now realize you need to do it all over again. I said from the jump this series would be Knicks in 6. I expected it to be more of a back and forth series to get it to 6 games, but its not that shocking the Celtics won a couple games in a row in this series. You force a game 7, we’ll talk. Until then realize you’re already half way there and still down a game with your backs to the wall.
And finally, Brandon Bass talking about how the Celtics aren’t all about the shenanigans and they let their play do the talking. Gimme a break bro. Your leader is Kevin Garnett. The biggest trash talker of all time. Mr. “We’re going to [insert word about war or battle or work or fighting.] Bring your [various tools to accomplish aforementioned tasks]” broken record bullshit. You’ve got scrubs like Jordan Crawford running off the bench screaming about fucking opposing players wives. I never pull the “stay classy” card because this is playoff basketball and anything goes. Say or do whatever you gotta do to beat the opposition. But don’t act all high and mighty after the game saying the Celtics are above that. The Celtics are that. They are the kings of that shit. Plain and simple its a series everyone thought was gonna be hard fought and now it is. Just play basketball.
