Matt Harvey On The Cover Of Sports Illustrated As "The Dark Knight of Gotham"
I’m not sure what I think about this title of Dark Knight. Its pretty dramatic. But I definitely don’t hate it. The best part of Harvey is that he’s got that bad guy attitude. He’s more of a villain out on the mound. Dip in, nose bleeding throwing harder and harder as the game goes on. On the inside you know he’s fucking furious he’s getting the run support of a college softball team so he ends up just throwing faster and nastier every time he goes out there losing 1-0. He’s obviously got all the talent in the world, but I love his attitude more than anything.
Gonna be interesting to see how Zack Wheeler and him get along when Wheeler gets called up soon. I have absolutely no idea what Wheeler is like, but after he performed like shit in the minors to start the season and his excuse was that he couldn’t grip the ball in the dry Vegas air, I got the feelin he was kinda soft. Again, just 100% speculation about his personality but I get the feeling Wheeler is more of a finesse guy where Harvey wants to rip faces off every time he’s on the mound. They have the potential to be a dynamic 1-2. But gonna be very interesting to see how they play off each other.
PS – This article from Verducci says the Mets have drafted 766 pitchers in the past 30 years. Only 5 of them have won 10 games for the Mets. Matt Harvey is already 12th on the all time wins list for pitchers drafted by the Mets. For a team with historically great pitching they sure as FUCK can’t develop it on their own.
