Wake Up With A "Did You Know?": What It Means To "Testify"
The word “testify” comes from the latin word for testicles. Way back in the day in Ancient Rome when you were speaking at a trial as either a witness or in your own defense instead of swearing on a Bible(which hadn’t been written yet because the Romans hadn’t killed Jesus yet) like we do today, men would have grab their balls. The idea was that you were swearing on the future when you’re holding your balls. Your future generations. And there’s nothing people hold more sacred than that. So while the practice of how we swear oaths has changed, the word stuck around.
This has been a wake up with a did you know.
