I Think Kawhi Leonard Attempted A Joke Last Night Which Is Bad News For The Human Species
I don’t know why but I can’t stop watching that Kawhi clip from his postgame comments last night. In my opinion it sums up Kawhi perfectly and why he’s so awesome. It’s almost like he’s programmed to only tell the truth or something. Of course he didn’t want to see it in Iggy’s hands, he wanted to see it in his hands which I still cannot believe didn’t happen as he went for that steal on Curry’s desperation pass. This is just so on brand for Kawhi there is no part of me that thinks it’s an act or anything like that. His AI is advanced, but not that advanced. It also would have been incorrect to say “yes” when asked if he preferred the ball to be in Iggy’s hands because he’s made a living knocking down huge Finals threes. If it were me I’d much rather have someone like Shaun Livingston or Draymond Green shoot the ball in that scenario simply in terms of percentages.
I feel like this is one of those responses that fans and the internet will get a chuckle out of and Kawhi just sits there confused because he doesn’t understand why it may be funny to some. Think of how 99% of players would answer that question, probably something along the lines of like “we just wanted to get the ball out of Curry’s hand and make someone else beat us”, and Kawhi comes in like only he can and tells it like it is, even tries to make a little joke about it. Honestly you should watch the entire press conference
because the one thing I love about Kawhi is there’s no bullshit, ever. I can’t think of too many star players who keep it as honest and real as he does, and it’s not cliche when people say he only cares about winning. You get that sense from him when you hear him talk after wins and then after tough losses like last night. Part of that is of course his programming, but it’s hard to want more out of your superstar than what Kawhi gives. He doesn’t know how to lie and that’s pretty refreshing.
You can tell he’s trying his best to show a sense of humor, but that’s obviously the hardest part of artificial intelligence. It’s the one thing that separates us humans from the machines, and while Kawhi still may have a ways to go he’s certainly making process and I can admit that’s a little scary. He’s already mastered how to “show” emotion
If he ever gets the hang of telling jokes we as a species are in a world of trouble.
