Patrik Antonius Talks Candidly About The Feeling Of Losing $500k Playing The Highest Stakes
That is one of the more raw, emotional videos I’ve seen from a poker player EVER. I mean, Patrik has won at the highest stakes for years. For over a decade he has dominated high stakes game around the globe. But man, losing still hurts. I don’t know what his bankroll is, but $500k isn’t the end of the world for him. You can’t play $6k-12k and not be able to manage losing $500,000. I would go out on a ledge and say it’s not even 10% of his bankroll, considering he used to play $1 million pots on Full Tilt years ago
But the point isn’t the money, it’s the losing. He hates losing. Losing STINKS. I think it’s kinda nice to see that emotion out of him. He has everything- looks, money, a family, etc, but losing still fucks him up. And as he said, the feeling of losing huts so much more than the feeling of winning is good.
After coming back from WSOP, I felt the same way. Just kinda pissed. Yeah I cashed in an event, but I know I can get better. I know I have a lot to learn and I want to get better. So I’ve made a promise that I’m going to work on my game a bunch and get better. I will have a decent score between now and next year. I’m going to put in the work and make it happen or die trying.
Also, RIP his dog. Bad week for Patrik. But he’ll bounce back. Winners win.
