"Comedy YouTuber" Lele Pons Is The 27th Richest Instagrammer On The Planet, Ahead Of Steph Curry and Floyd Mayweather

I was skimming through the 2019 Instagram Rich List because, once a year, I like to put some time aside to make myself feel really, really bad and worthless – I think it’s good for the soul to remind yourself that after more than three decades full of hard work and grinding, up and downs, successes and failures, at the end of the day, your life is dogshit compared to so many other people.

Kylie Jenner makes well north of $1 million for one single post.  Kim gets $910K (drammaa).  The usual suspect superstars fill up the top of the list, like Beyonce, Ariana, Selena, T Swift, Biebs.  The soccer players round out the top 15 and then the other athletes start trickling in, Lebron and Conor, the A list actors like Kevin Hart and The Rock.

But right before I got down to Steph Curry, Floyd Mayweather, Ronda Rousey, Serena, a name I didn’t know popped up at #27 – Lele Pons.

I’m not one of the 35,305,990 people who have heard of her, so I looked her up, thinking she was probably some foreign actress or pop star or oil baron.

Eleonora “Lele” Pons Maronese (born June 25, 1996) is an American internet celebrity, YouTuber, actress, singer, dancer, model and former host of La Voz… México.

Pons came to prominence on Vine, where she was the most-followed and most-looped individual before the platform shut down in 2016. She has since branched out, creating comedy sketches for YouTube.

It’s absolutely no surprise that “comedy YouTuber” is a lucrative profession – we had our own sweet taste of that shoved down our throat with Marbles.  Same goes for “Instagram Influencer” – in terms of simply “revenue earned,” you can make WAY more than “a living” by posting products and bikini pictures on a social media account.  For as much as we mock the millennials who travel the world to take filtered pictures in toxic waste dumps and Holocaust memorials, they’re smiling and vignette’ing their way to the bank, and then a second bank, and then a private account in the Cayman Islands, followed by a flight to the account in Switzerland.

But seeing it all laid out in info-graphic-chart form lands a certain kind of punch right to the sternum.  A punch that Mayweather couldn’t even dodge in an over-priced over-hyped PPV – if there’s any silver lining in this, it’s that you know Mayweather read this had this read to him and put a hole through a wall (hopefully no women were around).

Good for Lele.  A tip of the cap,  hustle hard enough on the internet and you too can get paid 144 grand for a single post of yourself straddling a paddleboard.
