BBC – Amateur photographer Martin Le-May, from Essex, has recorded the extraordinary image of a weasel riding on the back of a green woodpecker as it flies through the air. The photograph was taken at Hornchurch Country Park in east London on Monday afternoon.

It’s been a long week already so I think we all deserve a little weasel flying on the back of a woodpecker action. Now some people are saying that the weasel was probably trying to attack the woodpecker but I’m gonna go ahead an call bullshit on that one. I don’t get why people always just assume the worst in nature and can’t just once imagine a world where a weasel and a green woodpecker could be best buddies. I thought that as a society we were past all of that. If anything, this picture should inspire hope for all future generations to come. It’s important to be friends with people who are different than you because different people are better at different things. You think if this weasel didn’t befriend this woodpecker he’d ever experience flight? Hell no. But now he’s the King of all weasels. He can go literally anywhere he wants because he has a friend who can fly him around places and other weasels don’t because they are racist little shits. I don’t really know what the woodpecker gets out of this situation besides a new best friend, but that’s more than enough. These two little fellas look like they’re having the time of their lives. Best pals in the whole wide world.
