After Being Diagnosed With Leukemia In Late May, Carlos Carrasco Will Return To Pitch For The Indians On Sunday

Absolutely unreal story. God is great. Anyone that knows anything about baseball knows that Carlos Carrasco is one of the best people out there. An incredible clubhouse guy, and just one of the kindest human beings in the game. So while anyone getting diagnosed with leukemia is a heartbreaker, it absolutey SUCKED to see it happen to Cookie.

But this dude just put his head down and busted his ass to get back and help his team as soon as possible. Well, he paused for a second to have a tear-jerking appearance at the All-Star Game….

That moment said it all about how special Cookie is to this team. And I couldn’t be happier for him and his family that it appears everything is going to be okay. I mean, shit, he’s able to pitch in the big leagues on Sunday!!!

So talking baseball, Tito says he’s going to come out of the bullpen for the Indians, which is fine with me. Just having him back there on the mound will light a spark for the Indians. And everyone knows that to go on a magical postseason run, you need something a little crazy to happen. A rally monkey is cool, but how about beating cancer  and coming back to pitch in the playoffs?

Here’s what I said on July 6th when Cookie announced he had to step away from the game as he battled leukemia:

I’m not a doctor but I did not know that you could get over cancer that quickly. There’s only two and a half months left in the season. I can tell you this, don’t let the Indians get to a point where Carlos Carrasco is returning for a big game. There will be some Angels in the Outfield type shit going on in that one. You absolutely hate to see this happen to such a good guy, but if he’s able to make a full recovery this year, that kind of spark may be exactly what the Indians need to go on a special run.

I warned you guys not to let this happen! But I will admit I wrote that with about 99% heart and 1% brain. There was no way he actually comes back, right? Two and a half months to beat cancer? But he busted his ass and God was too great that he literally came back too soon! I like that he’s getting some September action, but can you imagine Carlos Carrasco making his first appearance out of the bullpen in the playoffs? No doubt strikeout. The angels wouldn’t let that ball be touched.

I’m hoping the baseball God’s still reward him come October. Carrasco was going to be a rallying symbol for the Tribe, but now he’s going to be on the mound. Great fight Carlos! This type of spark is what we needed!! You’re next Jose!!!!
