Costa Rica's Soccer Coach Just Straight Up Quit Because That Shit Was Too Boring For Him. His Words, Not Mine
Source – Gustavo Matosas has stepped down as manager of the Costa Rica national team after less than a year in the job, blaming the frequent down time between games that made him feel unproductive.
“I realized that in the national side I feel unproductive even though I kill myself watching videos,” Matosas said at a news conference Wednesday…
…”I didn’t know being a national team manager was so boring. I don’t regret it and I don’t leave frustrated because I gave my best. I won’t manage a national team again. I can’t only have the players every two months. It’s not for me.”
Gustavo Matosas, basically:
I gotta be honest here, I’m still not totally sure how I feel about this guy. On one hand, it’s a big time power move. Buddy got hired less than a year ago. You have to imagine that the people who run the Costa Rican national team were pretty excited about the hire and the team heading in a new direction. Then Gus Bus over here just up and quits, saying he’s too damn bored to give a damn about this anymore. It would be one thing if he had been around for years and he just couldn’t take it anymore. But he was there for less than a year and was like, “nah, this shit is for the birds”.
On the other hand…well it seems like he just left a dream job. You’re telling me right now that you quit work because you don’t have enough work to do? What kind of ass backwards rationale is that? You’re basically getting paid to vacation in Costa Rica and all you have to do is babysit a bunch of soccer players for a couple months out of the year. After that, they’re not your responsibility anymore. They’re over training with their club teams for most of the year, you just have to worry that they don’t suck total ass by the time they get to you. Is Costa Rica even any good at soccer? I feel like all you have to do is maybe squeak out a win or at least a draw and your job is secured. It was essentially the Mail Time Jackpot.
But since nobody likes a blog that doesn’t actually take a side, I guess I’ll go with this being an all-time power move. I have a feeling that this dude might just have a little more motivation in life than someone like myself, so maybe the idea of just mailing it in isn’t as appealing to him. So congrats on the massive set of nuts you just dragged across Costa Rica, Gus. Unfortunately those don’t count for anything in your bank account, but they mean everything in life.
