Football Looks Fun And I'm Tired Of Being Left Out
So, I've decided to watch football this year.
Listen, I've worked at this company for about a year now. Consequently, I've been surrounded by a lot of people who really, really love sports. As most of you know, I've never been someone who gives a rat's ass about football, baseball, basketball, etc., but damn, you know what? I'm prepared to admit that caring about that shit looks kind of fun.
The weird thing about ~sports~ is that if you don't grow up watching and rooting for a team, it can feel somewhat inaccessible. That a weird trait for one of the biggest American cultural obsessions to have. A lot of women (and it's not all women or even ONLY women) feel like they can't like sports because they constantly feel like they're on the outside of a nationwide inside joke.
There have been dozens of articles written with titles like What To Do If Your Boyfriend Loves Football And You Don't or Here's A Hot Guy To Root For So You Can Pretend To Like Sports, You Absolute Bimbo. I don't know why watching sports (when you're not diehard) always has to be framed around a dude or at least an excuse. Why can't we just decide to be a part of something that looks like fun?
I'm not going to act like I know everything, or even like I want to. I just want to have fun and see what this NFL football shit is all about! But I'm going to need some help to decide what team I want to ride out this season. I've narrowed it down to 15 teams that I would consider. Before you ask, the Patriots are a Hard No due to my father being a Giants fan who would write me out of his will if I rooted for the Pats.
Please help me by filling out this google doc voting for which team I should root for and why, or writing in your own if I missed a good one.
Tomorrow at 3pm EST I will be live on the Barstool Twitch channel to talk through my choices and pick a team.
