Brett Taylor, Bleacher Nation – With internal coaches Mark Loretta and Will Venable interviewed, the Chicago Cubs are moving along to an external interview today for their open managerial job: Joe Girardi.

The long-time Yankees skipper has been calling games for Fox this week, but he’ll take his off-day from the Rays and Astros series to come to Chicago for an interview, it seems, according to this Mark Gonzales report.

From the jump, it sounded like Girardi really, really wanted a shot at the Cubs job, perhaps even going back to this time last year. Now he’ll at least get his shot to wow the Cubs’ front office after two years away from the dugout.

I feel like there’s a very small chance the Cubs hire Joe Girardi but nevertheless that won’t stop me from getting out in front of this: Girardi can’t manage the Cubs. Not Theo’s Cubs. Rizzo’s Cubs. My Cubs and your Cubs. It’s literally the worst idea I’ve ever heard in my entire life without exaggeration. I’m trading between dry heaving and full on barf right now thinking about that hardo in the dugout 162 times a year and honestly guys it doesn’t feel great.

Imagine Girardi getting on Anthony Rizzo’s case. Imagine him watching Heyward ground out to second base for the 57th time in May. Think of how much every pitcher but Jose Quintana would absolutely hate his fucking guts. And in fact, mix Quintana in there because Girardi was the Yankee manager when Q got dealt to the White Sox for a medium sized box of ribbed, lubed condoms. So maybe Q is out on him too – maybe not.

All I know is that I’m out on Joe Girardi because it won’t work with Theo. That’s the hot ticket for me. He’s a great motivator and did wonders moving on from the Old Yankees to the Young Yankees in 2017. But let there be no doubt he’s a guy who wants it done the way he wants it done and you wonder if that works with Theo.

Just kidding obviously it doesn’t because Theo’s the guy. So you need a manager that can come and fit into his system, culture, infrastructure, etc. Not the other way around. So the think these two can get along much less even coexist over the length of the contract Girardi would end up getting is bananaland funny.

Again, no disrespect to Girardi’s success and track record, but you can’t tell me he’s going to vibe with our big dog. And as we’ve seen, how does it work out when you don’t V with Theo?

You gotta v with t if you’re gonna make it with the Cubs. Everyone knows that which is why I’m begging you to trust me that David Ross is the guy.

No one NEEDS an asshole to put anyone in their place. Such a ridiculous take when you remember you’re talking about grown ass adult professionals. The job is to get the most out of the 25 players on your roster and given that the last time Ross lead a 25-man roster it was the greatest team in Cubs history. Then he leaves and it slowly falls to shit and literally THE WHOLE TIME we’re like Man David Ross Is Going To Be Such A Bomb Fucking Manager.

Now he’s willing to come back and manage and we’re dragging feet for Girardi? Makes absolutely zero sense when you really actually think about.

Do the right thing and Bring the Chosen One home
