Dwayne Haskins Has Played 4 Quarters of NFL Football Without Taking Any First Team Reps, Let's All Relax And Let Him Develop Before We Rush To Judgement

Washington Redskins v Minnesota Vikings

There is a ton of negativity about Dwayne Haskins floating around the interwebs today after he came in last night in relief of Case Keenum and looked less than ideal in 2 quarters of play. My question is- what did you expect? How would you ever expect Haskins to succeed last night? Let’s look at what he was working with:

– A short week without taking any first team reps during practice

– An offensive line that features Morgan Moses

– No tight ends that can give him a decent option for a check down

– A 34 year old starting RB who doesn’t catch balls out of the backfield

– The best WR is a rookie, albeit a really good one, in Terry McLaurin, but no true option besides him

– A head coach who was fired after 6 weeks

– A front office that absolutely sucks

– He has played 12 games since high school

– Those 12 games were out of the shotgun for Ohio State, against sub-par Big 10 defenses, after learning the Ohio State offense for 2 years

– He just ain’t ready yet! Playing QB in the NFL is the hardest job in the world! He needs more time to adjust and study film and learn about NFL defenses before he can step in and lead a team!

People also forget Peyton Manning set the NFL record for INTs in a season with 28. Drew Brees was trash in San Diego before he settled down and adjusted to the NFL

QBs take time. Especially in shitty situations like Washington. So everyone calling him a bust, this and that, let’s relax. Let’s let him grow and develop. Let’s let the Skins give him a couple of pieces on offense. Get a better O-line. And get some first team reps during practice. That shit makes a a worlddddd of difference, and Haskins simply hasn’t had the reps yet.

We have no idea if Haskins is the answer or not. What we do know is he isn’t a Ryan Leaf or something like that. He is smart, he is a hard, harddd worker, and he wants to win and get better so badly. He isn’t complacent with losing or throwing INTs or any of that. I didn’t want him to play at all this season because I didn’t want any doubt creeping into his head that maybe he isn’t the guy. He can be the guy, but just not right now. So let’s wait, give it time, and then decide. I think that’s the fair thing to do.
