Jim "Pee Wee" Martin Made Normandy Jump Again 70 Years Later Yesterday At The Age Of 93
Normandy, France (CNN) — Jim “Pee Wee” Martin acted like he’d been here before, like jumping from a plane is as easy as falling off a log.Maybe that’s because he had — 70 years ago. “I’m feeling fine,” Martin told reporters moments after landing in a French field. “… It was wonderful, absolutely wonderful.” Martin was part of the U.S. 101st Airborne Division that parachuted down over Utah Beach in their bid to retake France and, eventually, the rest of Europe from Nazi Germany. They actually touched down in enemy-controlled territory a night before what’s referred to as D-Day.
CNN video doesn’t embed so click here and watch the video. Its great.
Chills. Incredible. That’s the only way I can describe what I just watched and read. And I demand that you click the link and watch the video and read the story. Incredbile stuff. Just look at some of these quotes from Jim Martin:
-“It didn’t (compare),” Martin said, “because there wasn’t anybody shooting at me today.”
-“Everybody (was) scared all the time, and if they tell you anything differently they are full of crap,” the former paratrooper recalled. “But you just do what you had to do regardless of it. That’s the difference.”
-None of it was easy, but Martin insists, “I don’t ever have flashbacks. Never. Nothing ever bothered me.”
- “If I come back next year, I’ll make a jump next year. You can bet on it.”
-“And also I just want to show all the people that you don’t have to sit and die just because you get old,” he added. “Keep doing things.”
What a BOSS. Jim “Pee Wee” Martin just showing the rest of the world how to live. A guy with a million times the balls that I have or ever will. You gotta love the part where he says part of him did it because of his ego. Do you, Jim. Do you. You’re 93 and you’re more of a man than I’ll ever be. I want to have a beer with Jim like nobody’s business and hear him tell stories. It’s easy on a day like today to forget about what happened and those we lost in Normandy 70 years ago but don’t. The only reason we’re able to bitch and moan on social media about literally nothing and I’m able to write a stupid blog is because of those guys and guys like Jim Martin. Never ever forget that.
