The Davey Martinez Spin Move Is Not Getting Enough Praise, Nor Is The Restraint He Showed Last Night

Last night’s game had everything. Great pitching, great hitting, Bregman vs Soto, and of course, the Ump Show. That’s what we all watch for, right? The umps making it all about themselves. The umps on a national stage bringing all the attention to themselves. That’s why the kids watch. That’s why the kids but on their favorite Lance Barksdale jersey in the morning before going to school.

But lost in last night’s festivities was possibly the play of the night- Davey Martinez’s spin move on Chip Hale, while being held

That’s a flag! And Davey still got to the ump. The Redskins should be giving him a ring to start on the defensive line on Sunday.

But I’d also like to appreciate the restraint he showed. Yes, the restraint. He could have ended Blue’s life there. He *wanted* to end Blue’s life there. And all he did was scream at him. I thought we were going to see the first ever on-field murder and Davey showed great discipline. Sure MLB is going to fine him or whatever, but hopefully privately they throw him a banquet with a nice filet mignon dinner and Cab Sav because when the cameras were on, Davey held back. Nothing but respect for my manager.

And by the way, the fact that play is un-reviewable but they spent 8 minutes with the replay headsets on reviewing the reviewability of it is why MLB is the worst. Because meanwhile the entire world was sitting at home watching replays, everyone in agreement that it wasn’t interference, and MLB just embarrassed themselves by doubling down on the out call. Pretty ridiculous and very avoidable if MLB could implement a system that works/umps who can see.

Until then, managers better keep studying tape of JJ Watt and Davey, you never know when you’ll need that spin move.
