The Mighty Ducks Reboot Series Is In Development
Discussing Film – We have learned that ‘The Mighty Ducks’ reboot series is going forward and will release on Disney+.
THR reported in early 2018 that a ‘Mighty Ducks’ series was in early development at ABC Signature Studios. Steven Brill, Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, George Heller and Brad Petrigala will all executive produce the series. Steven Brill wrote the original 1992 film for Disney.
The series focuses on a 13-year-old boy when he gets kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, his mom decides to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play. The original film focused on reckless young lawyer Gordon Bombay who after getting arrested for drunk driving, he must coach a kids hockey team for his community service.
Bombshell news to drop on a Wednesday. The Mighty Ducks is getting the reboot from Disney+ as a series and will focus on a kid who got kicked off the Mighty Ducks junior division team. Before I can decide if I’m all in on this movie there are a few big questions I have.
First, what characters will be in it? If Gordon Bombay doesn’t make his way into the film in one way or another then I think it’s a major fail. I don’t care how low budget this will be and how much Emilio Esteves costs, you NEED Gordon Bombay. Need the Bash Brothers as well. I picture some kid on the new team that is essembled to be bullied, and that is where the Bash Brothers come in and teach the kid how to stand up for himself.
We can’t kill off the Wolf either, right? Wolf Stansson is Gordon Bombay’s rival and the coach of Team Iceland in D2. I need the Wolf as the villain in this movie in one way or another. Wolf was one hell of a villain and if he doesn’t get the call for the reboot I’ll be severely disappointed.
If there is a team reunion, which team will it be? D1, D2, D3, all have different team members. I mean, Jesse and Terry basically disappear from the movies. So are they coming back?
I also need to know if we get an update on Guy Germaine and Connie’s relationship. There is no way the fling didn’t rekindle after college. Also, what the fuck is going on with Banks? I need some HockeyDB esq numbers on how his career played out after High School. No way he didn’t go D1, right? I could also see that cake eater going to play in the QMJHL.
I’ve got to be completely honest, I’m not fully on board with this as of now. I love the Mighty Duck series as is. As a kid, I always wanted a Mighty Ducks 4 but now after all these years I really don’t think it is necessary. If they can somehow get a kick ass cast and get a ton of NHL cameo’s, I may be all in on this. But for now, I’m not really sure if I can back this until I’m given some more info.
