Week 12 CFP Rankings Revealed. Let's Debate.
The winner is most certainly Alabama, who is at #5 after their loss to LSU. Am I surprised by it? A little, but not really. The committee obviously feels that LSU is the best team in the country and a 5 point loss to them isn't necessarily that bad. Although, with that mindset, you'd probably put them over Georgia, but the Dawgs do have a win against #11 Florida. The best thing that can happen to Alabama would be an Auburn victory this weekend and then a 20+ point win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl. The worst thing that can happen would be Georgia beating Auburn and then sneaking past LSU in the SEC Championship. That would set up for an OSU, Clemson, LSU, Georgia playoff. All of this fits ESPN's FPI model saying they have a high chance of making the playoff:
At the current time, Alabama is 7/1 at a lot of books. That looks like great value.
Minnesota behind Utah is a joke. Who is Utah's best win? 6-4 Washington? Minnesota's win over Penn State is 100x better. Minnesota shouldn't be concerned because if they win out they are in. Although, the love for the Pac-12 continues by the committee. Are they setting themselves up to put the Pac-12 champion in if the opportunity presents itself? My gut says yes. I'm not sure why the committee loves Oregon and Utah this year. Both of their best wins have come against Washington, who isn't even in the top 25. Utah's other best win is probably BYU? Oregon's is, I don't know, USC?
Oklahoma and Baylor cannot be feeling great. They are going to need a lot of help. Can you imagine if the committee leaves out a 13-0 Baylor for an 11-1 Alabama? It doesn't look impossible.
Texas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State all being ranked is good news for the Big 12, though. If Oklahoma takes down OSU and then blows out KSU/Texas in the Big 12 Championship, they may have a case.
