The Task Force Put Together To Find A Way To Stop The Riots At Veishea Have Figured It Out, They're Just Not Going To Call It Veishea Anymore

AMES — Iowa State University should continue to have an “overarching, university-wide event,” but should not continue to call it “Veishea,” a task force voted Thursday night. ISU President Steven Leath appointed the panel after a violent riot the week of the annual Veishea festival this year prompted him to cancel the official activities. The task force is charged with making recommendations to Leath, who will decide the future of the event. A week ago, the task force voted unanimously to discontinue Veishea in its current form. On Thursday, the focus was on the question, “Should there be an overarching, university-wide event?” Fifteen task force members weighed in: 11 voted yes, three voted no and one member formally abstained. Two others didn’t vote. Michael Owen, an ISU professor of agronomy, argued at Thursday’s meeting that there should not be a university-wide event, citing how Veishea has been presented, its history, and its association with partying.

So it was just a little over two months when the Veishea riots in Ames took place.  Drunk college kids taking to the streets, flipping over cars, ripping down light poles, kids getting sent to the hospital after getting rocked in the head by said light poles, all hell breaking loose etc. all in the name of partying and Veishea.  After that a task force was put together to figure out a way to not let riots like this happen again.  There was even talk of canceling the event entirely.  Well they’ve come up with their plan and it’s a good one.  They’re just not going to call it Veishea any more.  Simple.  Yes, they’re still going to have an event like Veishea where kids will likely party the same way as they did for Veishea but they’re not going to call it Veishea.  Get it?  Now, some people will say this is an insignificant move and it won’t change anything because it’s the same event just under a different name.  Well those some people don’t understand branding like me and this task force.  I call this move genius.  It’s classic rebranding.  It’s the Charlotte Bobcats going back to calling themselves the Charlotte Hornets.  It’s what Steve Ballmer should do when he takes overt the Clippers.  Change the name.  Take something that represents a smelly pile of dog shit, call it something else and no one will be the wiser.  You see how people excited are about the Hornets coming back?  It’s like the fans have totally forgotten that their teams sucks year in and year out.  I even bought a Strater jacket on eBay I was so excited.  Same thing is going to happen here.  Change the name to something like “Culture Week!” but do everything the same and it’ll all be fine once again.  Love this move.
