Jon Beason's Self-Negotiated Three-Year Deal Highlights The Giants' Latest Free Agency Activity
Did Jon Beason strike a player-friendly deal? I’d say so – he parlayed 11 games into a 3-year/$19 million ($7 mil guaranteed) contract. Good for him. Not every contract can be a team bargain, and clearly this says the Giants think he can improve even more & get closer to the all-pro form that made him the highest-paid MLB ever before an achilles injury stalled his career. Beason was a beast before then and came back to lose his job to some guy named Luke Kuechly. You know, 2012’s Defensive Rookie Of The Year & 2013’s Defensive Player Of The Year. Big Blue fans have been clamoring for their team to spend on a linebacker and they did to make sure they got their guy. There were other reasons, but the defense’s turnaround was largely due to acquiring Jon Beason for essentially nothing. Guy was not only a tackling machine, but a leader that the D will need even more now that Tuck’s officially a Raider (2 years/$11 mil). It’s a calculated risk I don’t have a problem with.
In other news, Jacoby Jones apparently got all emotional over leaving Baltimore and pussied out of his meeting with the Giants:

So the search for a returner/WR depth continues (Ginn Jr.?). Remember when people were wondering who the hell O’Brien Schofield is when he agreed to a 2 year/$8 mil deal? Well you can go back to not giving a fuck. He failed his physical & the offer was pulled. Big Blue also added a center, but not the Dietrich-Smith/de la Puente we were hoping for. Instead, they added 26 year-old JD Walton for what I hope is just a cheap Option B. Walton started for the Broncos during the Tebow glory years, but hasn’t played in almost two years after suffering an ankle injury. No news on the TE front other than potential target Andrew Quarless is sticking with the Packers. Might be a position they address in the draft (looking at you, Eric Ebron).
