Andrei Svechnikov Pulled "The Michigan" Again And It Might Be Time To Bump Up The Difficulty Setting In The NHL

The National Hockey League has been around for 102 years. Mike Legg first pulled off "The Michigan" 23 years ago.

Andrei Svechnikov has only been on this planet for 19 years. I'm not going to say he was born 19 years ago because there's a chance he's not from Earth. But at the very least, he got to this planet 19 years ago.  And before Andrei Svechnikov, "The Michigan" had never once been executed in the National Hockey League. There had been some attempts over the last few years but nobody was able to pull it off until Svechnikov did against the Calgary Flames on October 29, 2019.

Now for some reason or another, Svech is apparently addicted to bullying teams from the Western half of Canada. Because just a month and a half later, this sick bastard is at it again and just put Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets on a highlight video that will live forever.

A move that was never executed in the NHL before and now this 19-year-old has done it twice in just 23 games. What a freak. And look at that window that he had to tuck it past Hellebuyck. That's how you know this kid just doesn't give a single fuck anymore. That's some Indiana Jones shit right there. Most guys might panic a little when they see a 6'4" Connor Hellebuyck close the door like that and they'll release the shot a little earlier than they wanted. But this isn't Svechnikov's first rodeo. He already has that first one in the bag so now it's just time to toy with everybody.

Again, this is the NHL. It's not like Svechnikov is pulling this move off in some 2nd tier Russian league. It's like he's playing the game with the difficulty setting at "All-Star" right now. Which means that maybe it's time to bump up that difficulty to "Superstar". It doesn't get any higher than Superstar so if Svechnikov keeps busting out this move after that? I don't know. Maybe he broke the game or something. New high score. Is that good?

Sidenote: not that this really has much to do with anything, but I always love matchups between guys who were drafted with the same pick as each other. So here we had 2016 2nd overall pick Patrik Laine going up against 2018 2nd overall pick Andrei Svechnikov. I think we know who came out on top of this one. Especially with Laine's guy Sebastian Aho ending the night with 2 and 1.
