Cedric Maxwell Saying Ray Allen’s Number Should Be Retired Is The Dumbest Thing I’ve Heard In A Long Time
CSSNE - During the Celtics video tributes to Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett on Sunday night, the camera at one point zoomed in to the Celtics retired jersey banner where two empty squares remain. It is widely assumed that those will be filled by the numbers 34 and 5, the ones worn by Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.Cedric Maxwell – who also has his jersey retired – thinks there may be one more number retired besides those two as well. And just leave one more place right now for a young Ray Allen whenever he comes back and gets back in with the organization. Three guys in my opinion who really need to be in this organization, have their jerseys retired, acknowledge because they have been champions and brought some dignity and respect back to the Celtics.”
Is Cedric Maxwell kidding me? He thinks Ray Allen’s number should be retired with Pierce and KG? Get the fuck out of my face with that shit. Ray Allen blew it plain and simple. He flushed his chance at immortality right down the toilet when he stabbed us in the dick and signed with the Devil. You don’t become BFF’s with Lebron and crew and get your number hoisted to the rafters alongside the alltime Celtic greats. It doesn’t work like that. He jumped shit before the Celtics waved the white flag. He quit on this team and this city. You don’t get your number retired being a selfish prick.
And while I’m talking about the last night’s game and the post game press conference, it reminded me just how much I love Pierce and KG and the 6 years we had with that team. I know I already talked about it yesterday, but they maybe my favorite Boston sports team ever. I just loved the way they fought. The way they always played with a chip on their shoulder. The love they had for the city and the fans. All they cared about was winning. They didn’t care about flashy cars, fancy nightlife or their egos. They were the exact opposite of everything that Lebron and company stand for. I’d do anything to reverse the hourglass and get these guys back in their prime so we do battle with the Heat on equal terms. It’s just rare you root for a group of guys that seemingly care as much about winning as you do and hate your opponents as much as you do. That’s what we had with this group. That’s why there was so much emotion last night. There was a special bond between these guys and this city. Something Bron Bron despite how great he is will never have in his life. Give me Pierce’s career everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
