Gilbert Arenas Was the 30th Highest Paid Athlete in the World This Year
Yahoo – Gilbert Arenas. The Orlando Magic will pay Gilbert Arenas $22.3 million this season, even though he has not played for the team since the 2010-11 season. Arenas hasn’t played for any team since April 2012, and yet he is still the third-highest-paid player in the NBA and the 30th-highest-paid athlete in the world, according to ESPN the Magazine. The Magic used the NBA’s amnesty provision to waive Arenas following the 2010-11 season. That removed Arenas’ salary from salary-cap and luxury-tax considerations. However, the Magic were still responsible for the $62.4 million left on his contract.
Gilbert is the third highest paid NBA player this season. 30th highest paid player in the entire world. Just think about that for a second. There’s like 100 billion people in the world. And Gilbert is one of the 30th highest paid athletes. The guy who took shits in Andray Blatche’s shoes. The guy who brought a gun into a lockerroom and waved in around in the air like he just didn’t care. The guy who built shark tanks in his house. The 30th highest paid athlete in the whole wide universe.
Guess that why he got to post this picture on his Instagram a while back:
The thing is, Gilbert was pretty good in his prime. Like, really good. His fall from grace was one of the fastest you’ll ever see. Knee injuries suck. But what doesn’t suck is making 22.3 million dollars to sit around doing absolutely nothing. I’d take that gig in a second.
