St. Louis Writer Drops A Topnotch Troll Job And Says The Red Sox Have Failed To Maintain A Cardinals Like Level Of Success
(Source) – The Red Sox did what the Philadelphia Philles failed to do once that team got old and plunged out of contention. The Red Sox hit the reset button while their assets still had value to other teams. Still, the Red Sox bailed out after winning a World Series championship. That must be hard on Boston fans, who believe the world revolves around them. And it must be gratifying for Cardinal Nation to realize that its team has not had to bail out despite a succession of unfortunate injuries. Injuries eliminated Cardinals MVP Yadier Molina and No. 2 starting pitcher Michael Wacha for months this season. Jaime Garcia came off the disabled list and got hurt again, perhaps finishing his career in St. Louis. Those were major blows, the sort of epic misfortune that could derail a lesser team. Yet the Cardinals kept competing and contending. They haven’t had to bail out and concede a season. The Red Sox provide an unhappy reminder of just how difficult it is to contend every season. They have failed to do that despite operating with high payrolls. So Lackey is now a key figure in the Cardinals playoff quest and Lester is trying to help the A’s win it all. “You play with those guys so long. It’s weird seeing them in another uniform,” Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia told Boston reporters. “I don’t really like it, but it’s part of the game.” Yes it is — for teams that fail to build a renewable talent base. Meanwhile, the Cardinals keep reloading instead of rebuilding.
So I’ve been staring at this article for a good hour now and trying to get a real feel for it. Because it reads like someone so disconnected from reality that it has to be a troll, right? Like it was written by somebody who’s never watched a baseball game that was played outside of St. Louis and who blacked out the entire month of October in both 2004 and 2013? How shitfaced on Cardinals koolaid must an adult man be to think that the Cardinals are on a better run than the Red Sox in recent years? Because here are the facts: since 2004 the Cardinals have 963 wins, the Boston Red Sox have 959 (I actually did the math, it took almost five minutes and it was most research I’ve done for a blog in ever). Both squads have appeared in the postseason six times in the last decade. But while the Red Sox have three World Series championships, the Cardinals have won two. The Red Sox also beat the Cardinals for two of those, one in a very anti-climactic and embarrassing sweep. So how exactly does a comparable regular season record combined with one less World Series and two WS losses at the hands of the very team who you’re trying to bash lead one to pen an article saying that we can’t sustain success like St. Louis? I really don’t know. Think you’d have to be a member of the Cardinals Cult to grasp that one.
