We all need more Uncle Phil in our lives right now
I don't think it's a secret anymore that I live, almost exclusively, in the past. I don't watch much current TV, I wear nothing but throwback t-shirts, and my hair style hasn't gotten past 1955. Outside of my current gambling losses, I'm a guy that likes to exist in a perpetual state of nostalgia.
Now that we're shut in, my throwback tendencies have shifted into overdrive. My current thing is watching as much Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as possible. It's one of my favorite sitcoms ever, and I think Phillip Banks is a Darkhorse candidate for best TV dad of all-time. Watching Uncle Phil clips makes me feel better.
So, since you're stuck at home like me, here's five of my favorite Uncle Phil moments, bookended by his two best.
1. The Pool Hall: His greatest moment ever. He walks into that pool hall a stuffy, uncoordinated suit and walks out with $900 after shutting that motherfucker down. The first time we saw that Uncle Phil could get nasty as fuck.
2. The Pool Party: A personal favorite of mine, this is the version of the story that Will and Carlton tell in court. And Uncle Phil is a fucking monster.
3. Knocking this dude out: Another time Uncle Phil got down to business, he just knocks this dude the fuck out.
4. It worked for the Beav: I like two things in this life; Uncle Phil laughing and Uncle Phil yelling. This has both.
5. The greatest scene in sitcom history: Yes, the greatest scene in sitcom history. While the scene belongs to Will, it wouldn't work without Uncle Phil. I fucking love Uncle Phil.
That's it. RIP James Avery. Uncle Phil is one of my five favorite TV characters ever. And for those wondering why there's no video here of him dancing, I couldn't find a good YouTube video of it. But it would've been here.
