Here Is The Anti-Redskins Ad That Will Run During the NBA Finals Tonight
TBL - Seven cities will see this ad, which was paid for by California’s Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, during halftime of tonight’s Spurs-Heat game. As the Washington Post reports, the video was originally produced by the National Congress of American Indians, which was one of the groups behind a petition recently sent to NFL players urging them to take a stand against a title which “does not honor people of color.” “Native Americans call themselves many things,” the narrator says at the end. “The one thing they don’t ……”
I was asked yesterday what my least favorite sport to blog about it, and I said football, because the Redskins have tried their best to ruin it for me. They are trying to ruin football for me, because you can’t talk about the Skins for over 15 seconds without someone bringing up their racist name. The wheels keep on turning, and the controversy will continue to grow bigger. I think everyone besides one Daniel Snyder is in agreement that the name will eventually be changed (however, I guess since he owns the team, he’s the only vote that counts). It’s become a distraction and an embarrassment, and the Redskins organization look foolish every time they try to defend it (see #RedskinsPride and Redskins freak out for the last two examples).
So once again, as is a weekly tradition at this point, we are talking about the Skins name, complete with a national TV commercial. Can’t wait to see how my team, who can’t seem to stop fucking themselves, respond to this. If history is indication, it won’t be with any common sense.
