Georgia Woman Fighting Against Citywide Ban On Sex Toys

Huff Po – Sandy Springs, Georgia, has a problem with sex toys. A city ordinance deems “any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs” obscene material, and prohibits their sale, unless “a bona fide medical, scientific, educational, legislative, judicial, or law enforcement purpose” exists. Basically, in this town, you need a doctor’s note to buy a dildo. Melissa Davenport thinks that’s ridiculous, and has filed a lawsuit challenging the ordinance. Davenport, who has multiple sclerosis, told TV station WSB that she and her husband started using sex toys after the disease made it difficult to be intimate. She says sex toys saved her marriage. Though Davenport might qualify under the medical exception to the ordinance, the 44-year-old told WSB that she finds it insulting to ask a doctor to write her a sex toy prescription, so she’s instigating a lawsuit. “(Some people) have this dirty mind about how people are going to use it. People really do need devices because they need it for health reasons and to have a healthy intimate life with their spouse,” Davenport said. “The ordinance basically says the government can stick its nose in your bedroom… It’s appalling. I just think it’s ludicrous.”

Martin Luther King had a dream. JFK preached ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. And Melissa Davenport will go down in the history books right next to them, waving a dildo over her head, celebrating her victory. If there’s one thing I know its that every tax paying American should be able to penetrate themselves with whatever they want. The third unalienable right in the Declaration of Independence was the pursuit of Happiness, and it most certainly sounds like blasting herself with a vibrator makes Melissa Davenport happy. There are men who died to protect her right to an orgasm her husband undoubtedly cannot provide. So unless Sandy Springs, Georgia wants those deaths to be in vain, I suggest they cut the shit with this “need a prescription for a vibrator” and let the women of their town fuck themselves with whatever they please.
