Ben And Jerry's Is Releasing 4 Flavors Inspired By SNL
NBC - Gilly!!!! Well, for once you’ve nothing to be “sorry” about. In celebration of “Saturday Night Live’s” 40th anniversary, Ben & Jerry’s unveiled the first two in a line of four “SNL” sketch-inspired flavors on Thursday: Lazy Sunday and Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch. To match its namesake, Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch is a combination of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams with caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds and a marshmallow swirl. To honor Lazy Sunday’s “dreamworld of magic” and adoration of cupcakes, the Vermont-based company add chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl to a base of a vanilla cake batter ice cream. “Our fans have a great sense of humor and we share their affinity for the comic genius of Saturday Night Live,” said Lisa Sholk, Ben & Jerry’s Marketing Manager. “We loved the challenge of creating ice cream personalities for those iconic sketches.” Other than to say the two remaining flavors will be released later in the year, Ben & Jerry’s are keeping mum about which iconic “SNL” sketches they’ll be based on. The new “SNL” flavors will be available exclusively at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops across the U.S. and Canada.
First of all, the Lazy Sunday flavor sounds fantastic. Anytime you can have pieces of one dessert within another dessert, you have a winner on your hand. Second of all, out of every character ever, they chose Gilly? Come on. Hardly a character worth naming an ice cream after. Thirdly, there’s two more flavors left. What do they go with? It looks like they are sticking to recent characters, so Stefon immediately sticks out. That flavor will have everything. And then for the 4th? Obviously I would want them to honor a hero like Farley and have a Matt Foley flavor, but maybe that’s too old? Fuck it, I tried to think of something more recent worth honoring, and nothing sticks out. Give me a van down by the river flavor!
