Here’s where trading Haloti Ngata pays off. There were 4 Ravens’ starters that hit the free agent market on Tuesday. Without the cap space created by trading him, they literally bring back zero of them. Torrey isn’t worth $8M/yr. Pernell isn’t worth $8M/yr, at least not to the Ravens who churn out pass-rushers like butter. Owen Daniels would’ve been nice to retain, but he’s basically Gary Kubiak’s son. So that leaves us with Justin Forsett. Reportedly got a 3 year, $9 million deal for a great character who fits well in their offensive scheme. That’s basically peanuts for a guy who picked up over 1,500 yards in a year where he wasn’t even the starter til October. He should continue to get most of the carries, and Taliaferro will gradually become the guy over the length of that contract.

One more quick thought on the Ngata trade, and how free agency has gone for the Ravens so far…. here’s the projected draft pick situation going into this year’s draft…

1st round (26th)

2nd round (58th)

3rd round (90th)

4th round from Lions (around 120th)

4th round (around 125th)

4th round compensation pick from Art Jones departure

5th round from Lions

5th round compensation pick from Mike Oher departure

6th round from Cowboys from McClain trade

6th round compensation pick from Corey Graham departure

7th round compensation pick from James Ihedigbo/Ed Dickson departure

Ozzie is fucking LOADED with picks. Plus Torrey, Pernell, Owen… shit even Tyrod Taylor signing with Buffalo today puts him in great position to have a similar pick situation in 2016. This is why the Ravens are in the mix year in and year out. The sky isn’t falling when these players leave Baltimore. It’s just raining draft picks.
