Wake Up With the Funniest Moment in ‘Too Funny to Fail’

This is one of my Top 10 favorite clips of the last 10 years. Easily.

“Too Funny to Fail” is a Hulu documentary about the The Dana Carvey Show.” Which failed. Spectacularly. Not in terms of its talent, because its cast included Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel and had a head writer by the name of Louis CK. And not because it wasn’t hilarious. Jerry Seinfeld called it the funniest show on TV and Bill Hader says he bought a VCR specifically to record episodes.

It failed because it was a show with sketches like Bill Clinton breast feeding babies and puppies and “Skinheads from Maine” and The Church Lady calling Princess Diana a slut, and ABC put in on at 9:30 at night. Rght after “Home Improvement, no less. Basically it was too good for its audience. Which brings us to this video. And one of the all time “wait for it” moments. I’ve seen it a hundred times and it still kills me.
