The World's First Triple Backflip On a Motocross Bike Is Pretty Incredible

FOX - Josh Sheehan has become the first person to land a triple backflip on a motocross bike. Sheehan completed the feat Tuesday at Pastranaland, the action sports park owned by Travis Pastrana in Maryland. The 29-year-old Australian reached a speed of 60 mph and hit a 37-foot takeoff ramp built at an 81 degree angle. He reached a height of 80 feet while whipping his 200-pound motorcycle around three full revolutions.  Sheehan practice the jump by landing into an air bag before completing it at Pastrana’s complex. Pastrana was the first rider to complete a double backflip at the 2006 X Games in Los Angeles.

Freestyle Motocross was one of young Nate’s favorite things. I remember growing up watching it at the X Games and being mesmerized by it. And this was before anyone had even done a single backflip. Now, backflips and double backflips are par for the course. The first time Pastrana landed the double it was pretty much the most impossible thing ever done. And now guys are out there doing triple backflips. It’s hard enough to ride a bike without hitting a stick and losing your balance, nevermind doing 3 backflips on a 200 pound motorcycle. Blows my mind.

PS: Remember when we met Pastrana, a guy I had idolized since I was like 11 years old, and I was wearing a Rey Mysterio mask and onesie pajamas? Good times.
