Ovi & The Caps Are In For A Reality Check From New York's Real Team

Fans in Washington are pretty excited. Their Caps fought through a tough series against the Isles and pulled out a Game 7 win which they’ve struggled doing in recent years. They stepped up and won a big game…or did they? Might’ve been more of a gift. I mean yeah, they technically won – but needing the full 7 to shake an inexperienced Islanders team missing half their defense isn’t exactly anything to brag about. They stifled Tavares & Co. in the deciding game by holding their forwards to just 3 shots on goal, yet the Capitals barely squeaked out a 2-1 victory & managed just 4 more scoring chances. A team with any real hopes of taking down the Rangers would’ve put away a squad like that a little easier. Fans should absolutely be pumped about advancing – but this isn’t the Islanders anymore. Fire wagon hockey is over. This is the best version yet of a Blueshirts squad that’s already had the Caps number recently. Trotz’ team wouldn’t have beaten Pittsburgh with their first-round effort & it sure as shit won’t be enough to knock off the Rangers. It’s reality check time.
Hank not only owns the Capitals, he’s a dominant 5-0 with just 5 of 111 pucks beating him in series openers at MSG. With Klein back in the lineup, Ovi & Backstrom are going from playing AHL defenders (outside of Boychuk/Leddy) to the best 6-man rotation in the league. And if the Blueshirts offense needs to muster more than 2, hints of a tired Holtby starting to show might mean there’s another freebie in store.

Four down, 12 to go. Time to start hammering out the next set of 4 tonight. VIVA LA BLUESHIRTS!
