Report: Big 10 and Pac-12 to Cancel Football Seasons Tuesday, SEC Trying to Sway Other Teams to Play

This past weekend was to college football was what March 12 was to the rest of the sports world as we knew it at that time. Everything seemed to happen gradually and then suddenly, with this weekend seemingly being the death knell for college football in 2020.

Dan Patrick spoke with a source Monday morning who indicated to him the Big 10 and Pac-12 will announce the cancellations of their football seasons on Tuesday, but that the SEC is looking at exclusive television contracts and is trying to get teams from the ACC and Big 12 to join them for some sort of season.

"The SEC is trying to get a delay to have teams join them," Patrick said. "They're trying to buy time, according to my source, to see if the ACC or Big 12 will go along with them."

Remember just two weeks ago when all these conferences said going to conference-only schedules was the way to save college football and that everything would be fine and dandy as long as we had Georgia play Arkansas but not Georgia Tech? You may not believe it, but it turns out that was not true!

Despite having been relatively pessimistic for the past several months about there being a college football season, I now find myself firmly in denial that the season will truly just be wiped from the face of the Earth as soon as tomorrow. That is a reality my mind will not allow me to accept until it is forced to do so. There will be college football on Saturdays this fall, even if I have to play the games in my mind.

If there is any silver lining whatsoever — there really isn't and life is pain, but go with me — I suppose we can take some sort of solace in the fact that the SEC is still fighting tooth and nail to play this fall. Unfortunately, it looks like we really have reached the end.
