Gird Your Loins: Cam Newton is Officially the Patriots Starting QB
The moment has finally arrived. Where those of us on Team Newton and those of us on Team Stidham come together and rally around the choice that has, for all intents and purposes, been the obvious one since Cam Newton was signed in late June.
I say again, how to you replace the irreplaceable man? With the world's most hyper-motivated man, that's who. You think Tom Brady has something to prove? That he can win without Bill Belichick? Well Belichick can match that, and then some.
But who has more on the line than Cam? He's been a league MVP more recently than Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees. He's led his team to a Super Bowl more recently than Russell Wilson. But he suffered a series of injuries that required surgery. And for that the team that made him the face of their franchise kicked him out like he was Charlie Sheen in "Two and a Half Men."
Worse still, the entire league turned their collective back on him. All except one team. All except one GM/coach who was willing to reach out and give Newton his chance to regain his former glory. And still this proud man, this former No. 1 draft pick is the lowest paid MVP in NFL history. In order to earn even the meager kind of chump change that journeymen quarterbacks make, he'll have to hit every incentive, including Super Bowl MVP and champion.
So he's as hungry as any football player can be. Discarded. Disrespected. Overlooked. Lean. Out to save his reputation. And hellbent on revenge from those who dared question his abilities.
There could only be one way to replace the GOAT of quarterbacks. With the GOAT of vengeance. I have no pity for the teams Cam Newton is going to take his anger out on.
