Syracuse University Quarantines an Entire Dorm After Testing The Students' Poop Water And Finding Traces Of Covid-19

I cannot stress enough that going away to a big school in 2020 is the biggest waste of money and time you can possibly do right now. If you are away at college this year I assume your parents are loaded and cannot stand the sight of you. This isn't college in any version of the word. A few weeks ago I brought up how a ton of Syracuse freshmen decided to have a big party on the quad that's located in the center of campus. Syracuse officials went through security footage (that area has cameras everywhere) of that event and suspended students who could be identified for the semester.

Fast forward a few weeks later and we have a shit ton of students back on campus and beginning classes. In an effort to be thorough and safe the university has begun testing students' wastewater for traces of coronavirus. We're talking poop water folks.  From what I understand this is actually pretty effective and a good way to detect the virus, but I'm also an idiot so keep that in mind. Ernie Davis dorm hall has been shut down after a run through of this testing. Shitty times some would say.

I love how in their email to students they stress "do not panic" and then follow that by saying return to your dorm immediately, and if you're already there do not move or leave your room! Oh yeah no panic whatsoever, everything is fine and dandy just drop whatever you're doing, you just probably have corona, and you need to run back to your doom right this second. FUCK THAT.

On a less important note, this is bad news for everyone on campus (virus aside) because Ernie has BY FAR the best food options in their dining hall. Granted I'm not on campus so I don't know what's going on with dining halls in 2020, but chicken tender day at that place was enough to flip a bad day into a good one. Their stir fry is also fantastic. I guess Shaw has pretty good food too, but when you're near Ernie and you're hungry that's the place to be.

So now if you live in the Ernie Davis dorm (a brand new dorm compared to the other ones) you're locked inside while the rest of school is doing their thing. Are you missing giant parties at castle (a giant parking lot where day parties are frequently had) or tailgates? No, but it still has to suck major balls to be trapped inside while at college. You could just be taking classes online at home rather than forking over tens of thousands of dollars for room and board. It's basically the NBA bubble in Orlando except you can't go out and play basketball or golf or fish or do anything remotely fun. Kinda like prison! College! Woohoo! Best four years of your life!

I actually think that whole university went down hill the moment I left. I chalk up a lot of my good fortunes in life to luck, but none more than the time period I attended Syracuse. Two Final Four runs, all of the bars at my disposal, and no global pandemic that shuts down the school and life as we know it. Since I left the sports success has vanished, the main bar for upperclassmen known as Chucks closed, there was a crazy string of hate crimes last year that were terrifying, and now campus life becoming non-existent as the university tries to go with school during covid-19. I could not imagine being a student at the school right now. Take a gap year or get credits at a smaller school and come back next year. This is just a waste for everyone.
