Louisiana Tech Postpones Saturday Game Against Baylor Due To 38 COVID Cases On Team
Earlier today, I blogged about the good news coming out of high school football world. Because I am the definition of a journalist, I also have to blog about the bad news. The reports coming out of Louisiana Tech? Not great, Bob!
SOURCE-The game between Louisiana Tech and Baylor scheduled for Saturday is being postponed, according to a source.
One of the higher profile matchups of college football on Saturday, which was scheduled to air on Fox, has been cleared from the calendar this weekend after a rash of positive COVID-19 cases at Louisiana Tech.
Louisiana Tech had 38 players test positive for COVID-19 in the wake of Hurricane Laura and would have been without many others due to contact-tracing regulations, a source told Yahoo Sports.
38 cases? That is not what you want to see.
It is worth noting the context here. Louisiana Tech was doing great in terms of cases within their program prior to Hurricane Laura. They had just one positive case after 350 tests. Hurricane Laura knocked off the power for 7-10 days around their campus, so players were moving around and made it much harder to socially distance. The number of cases increased, most likely, due to that.
Prior to the storm, Louisiana Tech had just one positive case over three weeks. That stretch of three weeks included 350 tests. But the difficulties caused by the power outage prompted the outbreak among the Louisiana Tech team.
If COVID wasn't bad enough already, God had to give Louisiana another hurricane. Life is brutal. Hopefully, all the players diagnosed will recover fully and Louisiana Tech will return to play soon. As Rico Bosco says, some things are bigger than sports.
