Wake Up With Shawty Lo "Dey Know Remix"
If you saw this picture on a Youtube video back in 2007-2009, you knew you were about to be blessed by the Best Rapper Alive.
Its hard to describe to the "kids these days" what that really means, but back in that era, the first time you heard a song it was a MOMENT. You didn't log on to a streaming service and just click on the track for free, you didn't hear a snippet on twitter, you heard new music in a way that was very raw and honest. I remember hearing this song on the radio driving in the car, and before the metadata was displayed on the screen telling you exactly who is on the song, you had to listen and hope for more at the beginning of each verse! In the situation you were hearing a big remix like this, the beginning of every verse was like a new present on Christmas morning... and when Dwayne Michael Carter Jr came across the airwaves with the message that if he doesn't look like money, then he doesn't look right, it put a gigantic, undeniable smile on your face like a brand new pair of Ice Skates you'd been wanting for months. Lil Wayne was pure and raw energy every single time his spot came up on a guest verse or a remix of your favorite beat. He is a living legend and we are lucky to be able to be apart of these moments. He's focused, he's thinking like he's got two brains! Philosophers will be pondering the question for years, "How come there were two women, but there ain't no two Waynes?" and folks, we may never know.
Also, on a sadder note, RIP Shawty Lo.
