Tennessee-Gonzaga Is Canceled and I Am Distraught

Tennessee Athletics — After receiving Monday's COVID-19 test results, the Tennessee men's basketball program is extending its pause on team activities.

The Volunteers will not travel to Indianapolis for next week's Jimmy V Classic, where they were scheduled to face top-ranked Gonzaga. Tennessee also will not play at Notre Dame on Dec. 4—a game that had been reported but was never officially announced due to the contract not yet being finalized.

Well I was feeling pretty good after the Braves signed Charlie Morton this morning and then COVID-19 came in like a bulldozer and ruined a basketball game I've been looking forward to for six months. After Rick Barnes and several other people in the Tennessee program were reported to have tested positive yesterday, the No. 12 Vols' first four games have now been canceled, including a duel with No. 1 Gonzaga.

I remember when this game was announced in May. It was even originally scheduled to be played at Madison Square Garden and I was naive enough to think I may get to see the Vols and Zags in person.

You idiot.

All I wanted was to watch two of the best teams in college basketball play, fans or not. And now Tennessee will, at best, begin its season two weeks late and with its premier non-conference game wiped from the schedule. However, I will still do my best to pick myself up and continue my tour of willful ignorance, where I pretend there is nothing that will derail this college basketball season and we will proceed as scheduled.

I guess I'll just be watching highlights from UT's last win over No. 1 Gonzaga for the next week and rest a little bit easier knowing this was a guaranteed victory for the Big Orange.
