The NBA Christmas Day Schedule Is Out And It Is AWESOME
Everyone knows the NBA on Christmas is basically the biggest day of the year. In a normal year, we'd be about a little over a month into the season. This time around, it's the opening week. That's a little weird to wrap my head around but safe to say the league is starting things off with a bang. This is a fantastic lineup that gives me pretty much every matchup I want to see. It has all the superstars people care about and it's 9 teams a lot of people consider contenders plus Zion. Hard to go wrong with that.
In our first game, I like the league giving the Heat their respect by having them play on Christmas. Not quite good enough for a key timeslot, but you bet your ass everyone is watching them against Zion. Once again, the league is going to do everything they can to make Zion a star. Fine by me, if the Pelicans actually play him and don't have him on a minutes restriction. That's a good matchup to kick us off and get the juices flowing.
How does a little Giannis vs Curry sound? I could get behind that. You knew Giannis was playing on Christmas, and now that Curry is back there's no chance they were leaving him out, so let's get them together. The reason I love this so much? The tampering. Remember, Steph has been tampering with Giannis for years now. There are Giannis to GS rumors every day. We are for sure going to get a picture of them huddled over talking to each other which will of course lead to wild speculation on Twitter. That is what I want.
Then we have Boston vs Brooklyn. Hilarious that Kyrie is going to finally make his return to Boston with no fans in the stands. That is too perfect. No chance he's skipping that game now that nobody will be there. We get to see him and KD against an undermanned Celtics team. Love that. Don't let the Celts win that game. A lot of people are quick to crown the Nets without them ever having to play a game, and that's certainly their right. Given the history of Kyrie and the Celts, KD rejecting Boston for Golden State, same division, this is what I want on a Christmas Day game.
For our first night game, LeBron vs Luka. Do I need to remind you how goddamn fun those games were? Fine, I will
I dunno, seems like a good way to spend Christmas night. The Mavs are a hot pick to rise up the West seeds this season, Luka is must watch and oh yeah, I guess we should mention the Lakers are defending champs. This is a game LeBron will actually try in and it's usually a great show when that happens. You know Luka isn't going to back down, the only downside is I'm not sure Porzingis plays in this one.
And finally, a very interesting battle in the West that could have playoff seeding implications. I know people are sort of down on the Clippers right now and like to get jokes off, but they're still going to be pretty good. Granted who knows what they'll do in terms of load management, but a Clippers/Nuggets battle is sure to deliver. I mean I dunno if you knew this but there was a playoff series with these two last season. You may have heard about the Clippers choking a 3-1 lead. Well now they get their first crack at revenge on Christmas. That's the perfect way to end the night.
So yeah, consider me very excited for this slate and the return of NBA basketball in general. We did it, we made it through the second hiatus, now bring me all the basketball I can handle.
