Here's The Thing About The Steelers And Chiefs: Everyone Needs To Shut The Fuck Up
This debate has been going on all season and quite frankly it's become more than nauseating.
No matter what either team does, but especially the Steelers, Twitter runs amuck with "WOW only beat the __ by 6?? OVERRATED". The constant comparison is exhausting at this point in the season and really doesn't make all that much sense.
They aren't in the same division. They won't see each other until the AFC Championship at the earliest so honestly at this point I don't really give a shit. The Steelers beat the depleted Ravens at home on Wednesday by five. The Chiefs beat basically the same thing in the Broncos at home last night by six. They've each been in blowouts. They've each had some tight games no matter what Twitter wants to tell you about Kansas City.
Let's take a more detailed look:
Steelers
Steelers Record: 11-0
Opponents Record: 51-76
Average Margin of Victory: 11.8 points
Points Per Game: 28.8
Points Allowed Per Game: 15.7
Chiefs
Chiefs Record: 11-1
Opponents Record: 60-81
Average Margin of Victory: 10.3 points
Points Per Game: 30.8
Points Allowed Per Game: 22
No side taken at all. Just straight numbers and facts about the two teams.
I'm old enough to remember just three short years ago when the Steelers-Patriots was this year's Steelers-Chiefs. The whole season had the week-by-week drama of the buildup to that fateful December matchup between the Steelers and Pats at Heinz Field.
Is this the year?
Can the Steelers dethrone the Pats?
Can they finally be the number one seed and have home field advantage?
That game came, the Steelers had their shot, they lost, then Mike Mitchell's loud ass mouth (and even Coach Tomlin to an extent) could not stop talking about the next meeting with the Pats in the AFC title game like it was a given that it was going to happen.
How'd that workout?
A Divisional round upset loss at home to the fucking Jaguars.
My point being to stop worrying so much about Kansas City right now. The Steelers aren't perfect, but right now their record is. Even if they do wind up with the number one seed in the AFC, they'll still have to play the red hot Cleveland Browns (puke) or the rough and ragged Buffalo Bills. No 100% gimmes at all.
I'm making a commitment similar to my hair and No Fun November right now. I will not talk, compare, or worry about the Kansas City Chiefs until the week of the potential future matchup between the two in January.
Let's stop listening to dweebs like PFF on Twitter, enjoy the here and now, understand that the team is still growing and hasn't peaked yet, and if we're all lucky enough to get a Mahomes vs. this Steelers defense in a potential AFC title game then really I think we all win. But there's a long way to go before we get there.
Here We Go.
