The Big Ten Has Decided To Change Their Rules So Ohio State Can Play In The Championship Game
Boom.
Let's call it exactly what it is: special treatment. That's what happens where you're the big dog in the conference that the world revolves around. You get special treatment. But let's also call a spade and spade here and admit that this was an absolute NO BRAINER. What else were you going to do? Punish Ohio State because we're in the midst of a global pandemic and send the #2 seed from their division to the championship? Not because they beat the Buckeyes or anything (the Buckeyes beat them), but simply because they played more games. Sending Indiana to the Big Ten Championship game would've been the ultimate participation trophy. Congrats, you guys played.
Not only would sending Indiana have been the unfair move, doing so would've also erased any chance the Big Ten had at making the playoff this year. That's money, and the Athletic Directors knew it when they concocted this plan.
Good rationale! Throw all of those bright minds of the Big Ten into one room and look what comes out of it: a good idea. I actually hadn't even seen this argument on Twitter this week, but it makes sense. Even if Ohio State were to lose the game in which they were 30 point favorites to win, they'd still be heading to the championship game. So we're really going to punish them for not playing? Win or lose they'd be in....but getting cancelled on should cost them the spot? Kudos to the Big Ten for getting this right.
Oh, and sorry to Texas A&M. Your chances of making the playoff just went to about 0.0%. And that may be too high. You now need Ohio State AND Flordia/Clemson to lose just so you can sneak in. Let me give you a little hint....Ohio State ain't losing to Northwestern. Not in the past 100 years, not in the next 100 years, and definitely not this year.
Can't wait to watch a 40 point win in the conference championship game and then head to the playoff. And no, we still haven't beaten anyone. DON'T CARE!
