Forget Not Winning Convincingly, Is Ohio State About To Lose To Northwestern?
Oh no. This cannot be happening. NORTHWESTERN? All we had to do today was beat these nerds and we'd punch our ticket to the College Football Playoff. And as 20 point favorites, I'll admit that I blogged this morning that I had 0% concern.
I was more concerned with who is going to win the Clemson vs Notre Dame game tonight. Looking ahead to our next game. But, uhhh, one half into this game and everything that can go wrong is going wrong. Very wrong. First of all we're down 14 scholarship players, our leading receiver, our starting linebacker, and our starting safety. I won't make excuses but Covid is not making this easy on us. But it's NORTHWESTERN! I thought we'd be okay. I thought this was one of the funniest sights I'd ever seen in the pregame.
I laughed out loud when I saw these nerds jawring at us. But then they came out and made us look silly in the first half. Beat us every which way. And honestly, we're getting out coached right now too. Ryan Day, where's the tempo? Where's the urgency?
But through all that, a touchdown to end the half to take the lead would've eased everyone's pain. And I thought we were going to get one until Brandon Joseph made perhaps the best interception I've ever seen.
Unbelievable. And now it's 10-6 Northwestern, and their ball coming out of the half. Nervous Meter: 50%. It must be noted that we were down 21-7 last year at the half against Wisconsin in the championship game, and then we outscored them 17-0 in the 2nd half. But something about today just feels wrong. Why is the Big Ten title game a 12 pm start? This whole thing just feels off. We need a stop to start the half. A stop and a score. Or else we're in major trouble of even winning this game….
Meanwhile, in Knoxville….
Oh god. Is winning not going to be enough today? This may just be the perfect storm.
