Yeah, Gonzaga Is The Best Team In The Country And A Complete Fucking Wagon (And Iowa Isn't The 3rd Best Team In The Country)
What an ass kicking. That's the only way to put it. End score was 11 but it was a double-digit game pretty much the entire time. The main reason? Well, first, Jalen Suggs is unreal. The freshman guard was a monster and the best player on the floor. Look at some of these plays:
The second reason was defense. I know it's hard to sit there and say 'defense' when the score was 99-88. But Gonzaga's first half defense won them the game. They masked when they were throwing doubles at Garza and it clearly frustrated him. I know, I know, Garza finished with 30 and 10. But he WORKED for those 30. Most of that came in the second half too, because again, the first half defense was legit by Gonzaga.
Speaking of defense. That's exactly why I said in the beginning of the year Iowa was overrated and why I'm saying now they aren't the 3rd best team in the country. You can't defend - or lack of defend as bad as they do. It doesn't matter if it's man or that 2-3 zone, they get torched. Gonzaga had wide open looks and sure its offense is the best in the country. But Iowa has this problem every year and every game. They just didn't play anyone like Gonzaga yet. There's also the Bohannon talk:
Yes, Boahnnon has been awesome for Iowa. But he's coming off a redshirt year due to injury and he's not making shots. It's worth talking about because Fran has to figure out what to do with Joe Toussaint, who was great in the second half and good last year when Bohannon went out.
All I know is Gonzaga is the best team in the country. If they beat Virginia next weekend and look like this, then we're going to approach Gonzaga vs the field category.
