The St. Joseph's Hawk Mascot Spent All Two Hours of SJU's Loss to Tennessee Last Night Flapping His Wings Non-Stop on Instagram Live

So this is something I didn't know about until Tennessee played St. Joesph's last night, but apparently SJU's mascot never stops flapping its wings during games. Like, ever.

Wikipedia — The Hawk represents the University's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die", by flapping its wings non-stop (even during halftime) throughout every basketball game.

This seems like a cool tradition that's just their thing. And I'm sure it's an interesting thing to point out during games when there is a packed house. But obviously we've all had to do adjust and do things differently in 2020.

So while St. Joe's took on No. 8 Tennessee in Knoxville last night, The Hawk spent the entire game flapping away on Instagram, apparently to as little as one live viewer. You have to respect the hell out of this guy. I don't know how much of a scholarship the St. Joe's mascot gets, but he's out here earning every penny of it. It's easy to flap your wings on the sideline when you have thousands of people watching, but it takes real dedication to the craft to do it on IG Live for two hours.

And if you're a St. Joe's fan, this was probably a better watch than seeing your team get blitzed by the best college basketball team in the country, anyway.

Regardless of how well the SJU basketball team may do in any given season, I have a newfound respect and appreciation for The Hawk.
