BESSEMER, Ala. — If, behind every good man there’s a good woman, then what stands behind a grown man?

Because Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis was asked how he would describe linebacker DeMeco Ryans.

“He’s a grown man,” Davis said. “He’s very secure with himself. He’s a natural leader because of that security. People who are calm under pressure — people tend to follow those guys. (The moment) doesn’t get too big for him. He settles people down who are kind of losing their mind.”

A few days later at practice, Ryans was walking away until he heard how Davis had described him. Ryans usually smiles when he talks, unless he really means what he’s saying.

“There’s not a better compliment,” he said, his face hardened. “You’re responsible. That’s a man. Making sure I’m handling my business with my family. There’s no better compliment.”

So, what stands behind a grown man like DeMeco Ryans?

In his case, a Superwoman…

[Editor’s Note: This is the third blog in the life of our Philly Intern Slave: @BarstoolBrosh. Give him hell.]

Another day, and another prime example of what they mean when they talk about Chip Kelly’s “culture”. I mean Demeco gives Christmases out to needy families like a real life Santa Clause. When they spoke about how when Ryans was out with the Achilles injury he used to leave his family in the Eagles Family Lounge and wheel down in one of those insane scooter things that are a pain to use (Just ask Jason Peters) to the locker room to go over tape with the rest of the linebackers after every game it just shows how is truly here to win and make the team better. This is why the Eagles guaranteed him $6.25 million over the next two years; Because Ryans is doing just as much off the field as he is on it. He is truly a player/coach. I can almost guarantee “Mufasa” sits with the coaches at least half the week during smoothie time and probably makes sure everyone throws out their trash. That’s how his mama raised him when she wasn’t working 15-hour days and getting her pinkie grinded off. Regardless, its good to know that we will win the Super Bowl with guys like him, Cox, and Barwin (who is building I think a small country in Africa) rather than guys like Jackson and McCoy who only care about one thing: Themselves. (or we go 4-12 and publicly stone Chip)

PS- I can all but guarantee that Mama Ryans has probably some of the best church outfits we have ever seen.
