Completely Correct Opinion: The NHL Should Let Players Rock The Old Jofa Bucket On Gretzky's Birthday Every Year
First of all, happy 60th to The Great One. You look back at some of the most powerful men and women to live throughout human history, and almost nobody has racked up as many records as Gretz. I'd say the only person who could potentially come close to being as dominant as 99 would be Genghis Khan. Maybe.
But yeah. 60 years ago a God was born. And while there are plenty of things we will always remember Wayne Gretzky for, that Jofa lid has to be right up there at the top (along with the signature jersey tuck).
Never will you ever be able to look at a Jofa 235-51 and not immediately think of the greatest hockey player of all time. That helmet is as synonymous with Wayne Gretzky as an entire roll of tape around the ankles is to Paul Bissonnette. So with the bucket being so legendary, the league should start thinking about letting players rock it each year just on January 26th. It would be a perfect way to pay tribute to the greatest to ever do it.
I get that the Jofa 235-51 is hardly more protective than wearing a cardboard box on your head. So maybe there could be some potential issues there as far as head injuries are concerned. But I still think the risks are outweighed by the rewards here. As soon as Gary writes down the full lists of pros and cons for letting the boys rock this helmet for just 1 game every year (and some teams may not even get the chance if they don't have a game scheduled on the 26th), he'll realize the choice is simple. Let the boys steeze. For Wayne.
