Houston And Wichita State Gave Us A Huge Upset, Two Insanely Dumb Plays And Arguably The Best Story In The Sport
Listen, it's college basketball. There are dumb plays left and right because they are still college kids and college kids are dumb. But this? These two plays within 5 seconds of each other and 15 seconds left in the game? That's just gross. I get that turnovers happen, but committing that sort of foul to where you get kicked out of the game (10 seconds left, I know) but more importantly just let Wichita seal the game? Gross.
Speaking of Wichita. We gotta talk about them. Gregg Marshall - the best coach in terms of producing wins in school history was fired right before the season started. Along with that they had like 7 people transfer. They lost a ton. Yet, you look at the American standings and uh:
Not only that but we're talking about Wichita as a legit at-large team now. The AAC was trending to being a 1-bid league, which is just awful for the conference. That can't happen in this league.
As for Houston? like them long term but there are some serious concerns from a resume standpoint. They have the wins over Texas Tech and Boise State but other than that? There's not a whole lot there. Throw in losses to Tulsa and ECU? The more this resume looks like a team that's going to slide to a 3 or 4 seed depending what happens across the country. Yeah, they got Fabian White to play 9 minutes today in his first game of the season and that matters, but they gotta win out and now likely need to win the AAC Tournament to hold on to that 2 seed.
