Chris Delia Speaks For The First Time Since Accusations Of Pursuing Underage Girls
"I stand by the fact that all my relationships have been consensual and legal, and that's just it."
Quick summary - basically went the sex addict route. Talked about how easy it was for him to have sex, how it took over his life, how he wouldnt have stopped if he didnt get caught, but now that he did, hes on the path to "getting help" and relieved because he doesnt have to lie to anyone anymore. He had that definitive quote that none of his relationships were illegal and dances around the notion that the media isnt telling the full story, but he doesnt address any of the allegations of grooming. Which, I'd say is the major issue in this situation. I dont think anybody cared about Chris Delia being a sex addict. I dont think anybody cared about him cheating. The issue was regarding underage girls. He maintains that his relationships were all legal, so if you believe him, that would mean he never slept with anyone underage. But even if you did give him the benefit of the doubt, there were DMs that looked like it involved girls who were under 18, or just barely 18, or conversations that started underage and carried on until they were legally able to consent. Thats where the whole "grooming" element of this situation came into play. Seemed like there was a lot of talking to girls who were very, very young - either underage or barely legal. And while he may maintain nothing ever happened with anybody who wasnt of legal age to consent, there's still the huge issue of the amount of inappropriate interactions he had with a lot of young girls.
Its interesting to see the two ways celebrities can handle these situations. You can either go the PR Company route - a written statement clearly whipped up by a team of people that is filled with legal jargon and carefully measured half statements...or you can go this route - a more personal approach where the person is actually speaking on their own behalf. I know people think that PR statements come across as disingenuous and phony, but I think this video is the reason why people do it that way. Because the alternative is this video - Delia just getting up there and kinda freestyling the whole thing. He didnt really say much of anything. Opened up saying he did nothing illegal, quickly mentioned how easy it was for him to get laid, alluded to blaming the media for not telling the full story, went with the sex addict angle and didnt actually address why people were creeped out by him.
But take a look at the reaction on Youtube...not a single negative reaction in sight:

Now obviously a Youtube comments section is not the end all be all. But I am absolutely stunned. I guess on the one hand its uploaded on his channel and so these are his subscribers reacting and it looks like Chris Delia fans are supporting Chris Delia. Regardless though, thats flabbergasting. I mean just keep scrolling…endless positivity. I take a great interest in the reaction from the general public in these situations, for obvious reasons. I'm always fascinated to see which people get the support and which people get crucified, and why. And I gotta admit I am floored on this one. A never ending parade of positivity for the dude who several months back was dead to rights. Again, the positive response from his own fans doesnt paint the whole picture - whether or not his career resumes will depend more on sponsors and platforms and whether or not anyone outside of his cult of fans accepts his apology and gets down with him again. But even this initial reaction of people saying this is the best day of their life is unbelievable. A few months back I would have said thats the last we'll ever see of Chris Delia, but after this? I bet at the very least he'll go the Patreon route and continue to make a living off of the fans lending support to him tonight. Hard to envision him in a comedy club around other female comics or on a Netflix-esque platform or earning money off major sponsors any time soon, but I also would have said its hard to envision a tsunami of support the very first time he speaks up on Youtube.
Its a wild world of entertainment out there. Some celebrities are given the benefit of the doubt, receive sympathy and get the second shot. Some are never heard from again. It all depends on who, what, when, where, and why - regarding their apology, their reputation, their talent, their allegations, etc. Up until today I would have said I had a pretty good grasp on who gets that second shot and who doesnt, but the Delia reaction has thrown me for a loop. This is one I didnt expect. I didnt think he'd ever really be back, but I CERTAINLY didnt think he'd be back this quick. Maybe the tides have turned regarding people's beliefs on cancel culture?Thats really the only thing I think would separate him from previous celebrities in similar predicaments. Either way, whatever it was, that initial reaction has me thinking Chris Delia will be up and running sooner than later. Wild.
