The Home Plate Umpire In The Cardinals - Rockies Game Was One Call Away From Calling A Perfect Game

I gave a lot of shit to the MLB Umpires Association Twitter account last week for giving praise to Tim Timmons for being behind home plate for John Means' no-hitter and said umpires shouldn't have their names known. It's never a good thing if you know the umpires name for a reason. But last night we saw one of the best umping performances you'll ever see. John Libka was behind the plate for the Rockies - Cardinals last night and killed it. 136 pitches were taken and he called 135 of them correctly. Unbelievable performance by Libka. Pretty much as close as you can get to calling a perfect game as an umpire. 99% accuracy in an MLB game is pretty unreal, he was on his A game. And the one pitch he called a ball wasn't even that bad.

With the amount of old assholes we see in umpires uniforms this year it's amazing that there are still a few good ones. Again, we only know the names of the bad ones, gotta give shoutouts to the good ones. And Libka wasn't just good last night, he was great. Nothing to complain about here. Give me guys like this who just go to work and call the game correctly over Angel Hernandez who needs to see his name in the papers in the morning. Give me man John Libka a raise and give him a spot in a World Series game for a performance like this.
