The Worst Case of the Mondays
I have had a lot better Mondays than this one…. that’s for dang sure. After the Final Four, I started pushing college baseball at Barstool Sports trying to build a Stoolie audience for the most exciting and underrated sport in America. It was all going according to plan with even Dave Portnoy, Big Cat and Pardon My Take talking about the NCAA Tournament. There was a buzz around the Barstool Sports Office for the first time and I was so happy about it.
Right before the NCAA Tournament, our friends at Penn Gaming put lines and odds up. This was the big break I had wanted to grow college baseball. I knew that when everyone put some bets on it, they would see how exciting the sport was and become fans. I convinced Dave Portnoy to take Arkansas at +700 win the CWS. The Razorbacks won all 10 SEC series and the SEC Tourney. They looked like one of the best teams I have ever seen.
Last weekend, I caught a red hot streak on the Barstool Sportsbook and even went undefeated on Monday night! I got tons of messages from new fans from around the country and was so excited about the game growing. Getting lines on the Barstool Sportsbook was the exact shot in the arm I was looking for and things could not be more positive.
Be careful what you wish for. Dave Portnoy saw my heater and picks on Twitter and decided to take them for the NCAA Super Regional weekend. And I FREE FELL straight off a cliff at the worst possible time culminating with taking Texas Tech -148 to win their Super Regional and they lost the 2 games by a combined 24-3 at home to Stanford. Dave was rightfully not thrilled with me and my wretched pick. He let his thoughts be known on Twitter.
Saturday night, I took a big stand from the onslaught backing Doug Nikhazy and Ole Miss with this video. Ole Miss won 12-3 and at least for a few hours I got some inner peace.
Then I woke up Sunday morning and everything went straight to hell. I gave out these picks on Twitter:
Dallas Baptist lost to Virginia 4-0 and it did not even sniff the 10.5 run total. Then LSU got absolutely blasted by Tennessee 15-8 to get swept in Super Regional. The day was still only warming up at that point.
Then the unthinkable happened and the #1 seed Arkansas Razorbacks lost 3-2 at home to NC State on this solo homer by Jose Torres off Arkansas legend Kevin Kopps in the top of the 9th.
When Arkansas went down after Dave had them +700, I knew it was going to be really bad in the office for me on Monday. I tried to mentally shake it off and get fired up for Ole Miss/Arizona Game 3 as the Rebels were one game away from getting back to Omaha for the 1st time since 2014.

Then Arizona came out and murdered my alma mater 16-3. The Wildcats scored 7 runs in the 4th to make it 10-1 and the rout was on. I was so bummed about losing the possibility of covering Ole Miss in Omaha as that was literally a dream of mine. At least I hit the over 13.5 runs to finally get a winner I said in this dark humor tweet as I was searching for anything positive. I went to bed last night dreading my time in the office Monday.
Little did I know when I walked into the Barstool Sports office, Dave Portnoy would be decked out in Arkansas gear. When he saw me, this is what transpired.
To sum it all up, I got my ass kicked betting on the Barstool Sportsbook, my alma mater got destroyed and I deservingly caught the wrath of Dave Portnoy to start my week in full Razorback gear. Brandon Walker then got to remind me about Ole Miss not being in Omaha yet again too on Picks Central. It is never ending torture in the Barstool office today. How’s your Monday going America?!?!
By the way, I still have Notre Dame +130 to win their Super Regional against Mississippi State in Starkville and am excited to watch Game 3 tonight at 7 EST to try to salvage some dignity. Get your Barstool in Omaha shirts here as the College World Series starts Saturday!
