Let's pretend like scientists actually did their job for once and figured out how to clone humans. If I were to send those nerds the blueprint for the perfect coach to clone, it would have to be Rod the Bod. So it is about as surprising as the sun rising in the morning that Rod Brind'Amour has finally added a Jack Adams award to his resume.

And I'm not talking just about hockey either. When you think about what makes a perfect coach across all sports, there are a few factors come stock and then a few additional features you can add-on extra to really take it over the top. Obviously you have to have a knowledge of the game. Rod Brind'Amour had a 20+ year career in the NHL, so I'd say he knows a thing or two about hockey. You have to have leadership qualities and know how to relate to the players you are coaching. Rod Brind'Amour was the captain of the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes team, so clearly he has some leadership qualities. And as far as relating to the boys?

Buddy loves to chop it up with the boys.

And then, of course, we get to where Rod the Bod truly separates himself from the rest of the pack. There's nothing that rubs me the wrong way more than a coach who clearly wouldn't last more than 5 minutes doing any sort of physical activity. I get that some of the all-time great coaches spend too many hours of their day watching film and game planning to be able to workout. But still. I feel like players always respond better to a coach who would be able to do everything that he/she asks their players to do. And if anything, I'd imagine most of Brind'Amour's players wouldn't be able to do the shit he asks himself to do. Just look at this monster throughout the years.

Fighting Matthew Barnaby approximately 3 seconds after scoring a goal. Brind'Amour was a freak.

So a guy who had a long career in the NHL, was a captain for a Stanley Cup winning team, worked out so much that his teammates had to practically drag him out of the weight room every day, comes back to coach and chops it up with the fellas, and then hates getting any sort of credit directed his way when he wins a Jack Adams award and makes sure to just pass all the glory onto the organization. Rod Brind'Amour kicks so much ass, and he probably has another few Jack Adams coming his way throughout the rest of his coaching career.

I'm so jealous of the Hurricanes that he'll always be remembered as more of a Carolina legend than a Philly one. But man am I pumped for this stallion.
